Here’s to another successful year ahead…

11 Dec

As we approach the end of another record-breaking year at deVere Group and look forward to achieving even more success in 2015, I’ve been looking at some of the factors that have fuelled our success, and what we must focus on to accomplish next year’s goals.

From a personal point of view, my number one goal is health and fitness.  If I’m not fit then I can’t achieve what I want to achieve for myself, my family and my business.  I focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle in order to concentrate my efforts on my second major goal in life, which is to accomplish as much as I can in business and do my absolute best for my family. So, how do I do it?

Firstly, every morning it’s crucial to focus on the most important tasks of the day.  Know in your mind exactly what you need to achieve that day and what you need to do in order to realise that accomplishment.  I firmly believe that the first 30 minutes and last 30 minutes of the day are the most important.  The first 30 minutes are used to set out your objectives for the day ahead, and the last 30 are to ensure you’ve fulfilled those objectives so you can say you’ve had a successful day.

The more you replay in your mind all you’ve achieved each day, the more likely it is you’ll perform at your best the following day.  Inner motivation is key in the fight for success.

Secondly, always give everything you’ve got to each day.  It’s not just about turning up. You need to psyche yourself up for every task you wish to achieve each day and do everything in your power to make sure you triumph.  ‘Go Hard or Go Home’ is a motto I live by, as many people will know.  If you’re not going to give your all, then you may as well go home, sit on the sofa and watch everyone else winning and realising their goals.

Thirdly, there are three words which I always use to motivate myself so I can maintain a laser-like focus on my objectives.

The first is ‘fear’.  Fear is a positive feeling.  Fearing failure, fearing disappointment, fearing missed opportunities…These are all motivational boosters that will push you to strive for the top.  If you fear you’re letting your family down, fear you won’t be able to enjoy that dream holiday you’ve promised yourself, fear you can’t buy the same Mercedes E Class as your colleague, you’ll work as hard as you can to make sure this doesn’t happen.  We should all welcome the feeling of fear.

The second word is ‘focus’.  Focus on the right things, the important things.  Set your goals and focus on reaching them.  Focus on the advice you’d give to someone else and apply it to your daily life.

The third word I use to drive myself forward is ‘fight’.  If something is worth having then it’s worth fighting for.  Fighting for promotion, fighting to make more money, fighting to enhance your career prospects, fighting for your family…if you want something you need to fight for it.

Whatever your goals are for the future, if you work as hard as you can and really believe in yourself, you can achieve anything!  After all, “if you can dream it, you can achieve it”, as Zig Ziglar famously said.

“I do not think there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature.” – John D. Rockefeller.
