Happy New Year !

Happy New Year everybody! There’s something about the new year which is always inspiring. I guess it feels like a new start to most of us. Like almost everyone else I’ve set my goals for my business life and indeed for my personal life.
From a business point of view I think the industry is changing, in particular in Western Europe and other highly taxed/regulated markets. As an ambitious company it’s vital for deVere to stay ahead of the curve . Both Mike Coady and myself are working hard to make sure we are fully prepared for the new world we believe is coming particularly in Western Europe. Outside of Western Europe there are some equally as exciting challenges and opportunities that my managers and myself are extremely excited about. Our industry has massive potential to produce amazing products and really serve the massive growing need for financial advice.
A lot of my personal goals are around fitness. Without becoming boring on the subject I always feel that protecting your long term wealth and your long term health should meet with similar planning and determination.
I also wonder what other people set as new year’s resolutions/goals. Here’s some stats I found from the USA.
Top Ten New Year’s resolutions:
1
|
Lose Weight |
2
|
Getting Organized |
3
|
Spend Less, Save More |
4
|
Enjoy Life to the Fullest |
5
|
Staying Fit and Healthy |
6
|
Learn Something Exciting |
7
|
Quit Smoking |
8
|
Help Others in Their Dreams |
9
|
Fall in Love |
10
|
Spend More Time with Family |
I always enjoy lists like this. I also think goals need to be specific and meaningful to work. I suspect these goals aren’t defined enough. Have you ever thought ‘who sticks to resolutions?’
Length of Resolutions:
Resolution maintained through first week | 75% |
Past two weeks | 71% |
Past one month | 64% |
Past six months | 46% |
I’m sceptical of these statistics, especially when coupled with these:
Percent of people in their twenties who achieve their resolution each year | 39% |
Percent of people over 50 who achieve their resolution each year | 14% |
But either way it’s fun to read them.
I’ve always believed if you really want to achieve your goals you can if you are prepared to work hard enough at them.
Whatever your goals are, I hope you achieve them in 2013!!
I’m sure it’s going to be an amazing year.
